this landscape was funded by a railroad magnate and saved through creative tax sheltering. it was designed by the original reluctant landscape architect, fredrick law olmsted in 1886. I rode through it on a horse-powered carriage the railroad magnate’s great grandson assured me would be a cheaper means of transportation once we reach peak oil. his grandfather built a gorgeous barn to breed horses in right before the automobile showed up to dominate transportation.
