Today is the anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, giving women the right to vote.
“The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.”
It took effect 91 years ago, on June 4, 1919, it was brought before the Senate, and after a long discussion it was passed, with 56 ayes and 25 nays.
